Transmutations is not so much about the figure in landscape, as the human body as part of the landscape. Through abstraction the figure is fused into an element of nature rather than in opposition to, or outside of it. Space is viewed as fluid and the boundaries between the body and its environment become indefinable. The series was taken in various ravines around South Africa and exhibited in Nieu-Bethesda and Cape Town in 1998. It is an ongoing project and will hopefully evolve further. |
