Behind closed doors was completed in 1995 and exhibited at Michaelis School of Fine Art, Cape Town. Instead of directly documenting domestic violence, I created an oppressive, confined and confrontational space to solicit a physical and emotional response from the viewer. The viewer enter's a room and is surrounded by bigger than life size figures in a claustrophobic and nightmarish domestic enviroment. Text from newspaper cuttings supply the context to the images and space as a whole.
